Clarity comprises the stone’s imperfections, also known as inclusions. The less imperfections a diamond has, the higher the clarity grade. It is extremely unlikely for a diamond to be entirely flawless, as almost all include trace minerals or other internal features affecting their clarity rating. Our diamonds are color graded in GIA laboratories, compared to round brilliant diamonds called master stones. The clearer the diamond, the higher the value. The whitest, most desirable and highest rated color grade is D. The diamond’s color impact could be lowered or concealed by other features, such as clarity and fluorescence.

The carat is the diamond’s most popular feature and refers to the stone’s weight. Unlike popular beliefs, the carat doesn’t necessarily reflect the value, nor the apparent size. Size varies depending on other diamond aspects, such as cut and shape. However, larger diamonds are rarer than smaller ones, therefore are valued higher. Use the interactive guide below to demonstrate the size in mm of different carat weights for each shape of diamond.
The diamond’s cut is the most significant of all features. It refers to the stone’s shape viewed from above and affects its brilliance and light dispersion. Diamond cutting requires absolute precision and superb craftsmanship – perhaps it is one of the most important processes in the art of making diamond jewellery. Understanding how the cut works to capture and reflect light is the key to finding the perfect diamond engagement ring.
To bring your diamond back to life and make it sparkle, fill a recipient with warm to hot water, add washing up liquid and let the diamond item soak for 20-40 minutes.
Brush the stones with the help of a soft-bristled toothbrush. Make sure you brush the lower part of the diamond as a lot of dirt can build up around the base of the item where the diamond is mounted. Once you’re happy your diamond item is clean, rinse it under warm, running water.
To dry off your rings, you can use a cotton or linen cloth. These materials will not scratch the metal as paper towels would. You can also let your diamond ring air dry.
The process of cleaning your diamond rings can be repeated once a week to help you keep the oils and products from building up. However, it is recommended that twice a year you take your item to get professionally cleaned by a jeweller. A professional has all the necessary equipment and the skills needed to renew your jewellery. They will also be able to check if your diamond item is broken or has any damage that needs repairing.
